All- New Thar receives 4-stars in GNCAP safety rating

Mahindra’s off-road SUV, the all-new Thar has been awarded 4-stars by the Global NCAP safety rating. The SUV set a new benchmark in safety, becoming the highest-rated body-on-frame SUV tested by GNCAP so far. The agency also awarded the car highest points for child safety among vehicles tested so far.

GNCAP conducted the tests in Germany recently using the second generation Thar with standard safety equipment like two airbags and ABS. The test results showed that the car offers adequate protection to adults and kids. The vehicle lost out on five-star rating after the driver side footwell was declared unstable.

The Thar is the fourth car from the company to be tested under GNCAP’s “Safer Cars for India” programme and Mahindra is the first and only manufacturer from India to be awarded the “Safer Choice Award” by GNCAP.

Velusamy R, Chief of Global Product Development, commented on the achievement and said, “The All-New Thar is designed keeping the safety of our customers as the top-most priority, including Adult and Child safety. In fact, the entire safety simulation and development of the All-New Thar was done at Mahindra Research Valley. (MT)
