Avapco Receives Funding To Commercialise NDC Rubber Masterbatch

Avapco, a GranBio Technologies subsidiary, has received a funding of close to USD 730,000 to commercialise its Nanocellulose Dispersion Composite (NDC) rubber masterbatch.

The funding has come from more than more company. P3Nano, a public-private partnership between the United States Endowment for Forestry & Communities and the USDA Forest Service (USFS) has funded USD 500,000 to Avapco. Through a separate programme, USFS has funded the company another USD 230,000. Post the commercialisation of its NDC rubber masterbatch, Avapco will supply it to the rubber and goods market.

Designed to improve tyre rolling resistance and vehicle fuel economy by incorporating sustainable, bio-derived nanocellulose in commercial rubber compounds, NDC is the result of a four-year joint development programme between Birla Carbon and GranBio.

Bernardo Gradin, Chief Executive Officer, GranBio Technologies, said, “NDC is a key example of GranBio’s mission to ‘Enable Net Zero’ solutions through the development and deployment of sustainable biomass-based technologies across biofuels, biochemicals and advanced biomaterials sectors. The partnership with Birla Carbon materialises a common strategy to enable net-zero emissions in tyres and the automotive value chain.” (TT)
