Bridgestone Americas Expands Americas Technology Centre

Bridgestone Americas has announced the expansion of the Americas Technology Centre campus at Akron, US. It will now include a new vehicle dynamics test track for the development of future tyre technologies.

The new vehicle dynamics test track will supplement the tyre testing operations being carried out at Bridgestone’s Proving Grounds in Texas, Ohio, Mexico and South America. It will allow the members of the Akron campus to drive prototypes first-hand and thereby make the necessary enhancements for the tyres they are designing.

Nizar Trigui, Chief Technology Officer and Group President, Solutions Businesses, Bridgestone Americas, said, “We’re excited to advance our leading-edge tyre and technology development with the expansion of our testing capabilities in Akron. As we continue to evolve our products and provide sustainable mobility solutions to our customers, we’re confident that this new tyre test track will support enhanced product education and improve agility in engineering decision making for our product development process.”

Scheduled to be ready in Fall 2022, the vehicle dynamics test track will simulate real-world driving conditions and test aspects such as lane change performance, noise, vibration, harshness, and wet and dry weather handling.

The tyre maker has also made a USD 17 million investment in the Advanced Tire Production Centre (ATPC), where the company will manufacture Firestone race tyres for the NTT IndyCar Series. (TT)
