Cabot Launches VULCAN 3-LP, A New Low PAH Carbon Black Product

Cabot Corporation has announced the launch of VULCAN 3-LP carbon black, a new low polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) product for use across rubber applications.

The VULCAN 3-LP joins Cabot’s LP carbon black series as the fourth product. It is a pelletised reinforcing carbon black product that is engineered for end-use rubber products that require high reinforcement, strength, abrasion and tearing resistance levels.

The complete Cabot LP carbon black series, including VULCAN 3-LP, is manufactured through a special process to yield consistent and low levels of PAH that comply with the increasing regulatory requirements and quality certifications across the globe.

The VULCAN 3-LP can be widely used across consumer rubber applications, such as toys and childcare items, rubber products intended to be taken in the mouth, drinking water systems and food transportation belts.

Valdemir Prodocimo, General Manager – Global Industrial Rubber Products, Reinforcement Materials Segment, said, “This launch demonstrates our ongoing commitment to develop innovative solutions that respond to the product performance needs of our customers. The VULCAN 3-LP product broadens our morphology offering for low PAH carbon blacks and can be used as an alternative for high reinforced rubber products that are required to meet growing regulatory guidelines.”

Bart Kalkstein, Senior Vice President and President – Reinforcement Materials Segment and President – Americas Region, said, “Our customers are looking for solutions that comply with regulatory requirements and certifications that are becoming increasingly stringent. This new addition to the Cabot LP carbon black series gives our customers even more flexibility for choosing an alternative reinforcing solution that not only meets their stringent performance needs but adheres to the evolving regulations that protect the health and safety of their end-users.” (TT)
