Child Car Seat Laws Affect Birth Rates?

Researchers in USA have put forth a novel explanation for declining fertility rates in USA - child safety seat laws!

A fertility rate is a measure of the average number of children a woman will have during her childbearing years. A fertility rate of about 2.1 children per woman is believed to be replacement-level or as a requirement for zero population growth. Fertility rates are still at very high levels in Africa and some Arabic countries, followed next by the countries of Central and South America. Lower rates are found in industrialised countries in Europe and North America. In USA, this rate has been on a steady decline, from 2.1 births in 1970 to 1.7 in recent years. It is interesting to note that Singapore, Macau, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and South Korea has the lowest, about 1.3, fertility rate. Singapore and Macau had registered a fertility rate below 1.0 in 2017!
