ETRMA Members' Tyre Sales in Europe Indicates Growth

The European Tyre and Rubber Manufacturers’ Association published its member’s replacement sales for the first quarter of 2021, indicating growth registered in all segments compared to Q1 2020.

In quarter one, the truck segment is driving growth with an eighteen per cent increase, followed by the motorcycles and scooter segment and the consumer tyres market each of which recorded seventeen per cent and twelve per cent growths respectively. The car all-season tyres reached a thirty-nine per cent increase, followed by a seventeen per cent in the car winter tyres, whereas the summer tyres recorded a mere six per cent growth.

According to the organisation, the smaller increase in the car summer tyres is still linked to the Covid-19 effects, with many drivers who have not yet changed their tyres for the summer seasons, also due to the stringent travelling conditions still existing in many European countries.

Cinaralp, Secretary-General of ETRMA, said, “It is encouraging to see that in all the segments the market is recovering, and after the very difficult 2020 this is finally a good sign for our industry and for the society that is starting little by little to move again. I really hope that in the months to come, with the vaccination plan advancing all over Europe, travelling restrictions will be lifted allowing people to travel again.” (TT)
