Hero Cycles has witnessed an increase in demand for its cycles since the beginning of the pandemic. It has attributed this phenomenon to the popular belief that cycling is safe and effective to remain healthy and active while maintaining social distancing norms.
With just over 6 percent of the eligible population being fully vaccinated and around 22 percent having received at least one dose, the demand for cycles, according to Dr Shuchin Bajaj, Founder and Director, Ujala Cygnus Group of Hospitals, cycling is the best bet to improve the body's immune system. Cycling has a positive effect on the health of almost all people.”
Stating that India remains at the risk of another pandemic wave and has increased sedentary behaviour, leading to a significant weight gain in people, Dr Bajaj said, “During cycling, deeper breathing helps to cleanse the lungs better. That is optimal when it comes to virus protection. It not only keeps you at a distance from others but also reduces the risk of contamination by the touching of surfaces.”
Pankaj M Munjal, Chairman and Managing Director, HMC (of which Hero Cycles is a part), averred, “The Covid-19 pandemic has made people aware of the benefits of cycling and all age groups continue to show interest in the activity. Cycling remains a safe and effective means to stay active while maintaining social distancing norms.” (MT)
