Mahindra Auto Sales Sees Sharp Fall MoM

Mahindra & Mahindra posted overall auto sales of 17,447 units in May 2021 as recent lockdown has disrupted the company’s supply chain. In comparison, the company had managed total sales of 36,437 units in April 2021.

The utility vehicles segment contributed 7,748 units, while the passenger vehicles segment contributed 8,004 units. The company had sold 18,186 units in the utility vehicles segment and 18,285 units in the passenger vehicles segment in the previous month.

Exports also dipped, with volumes dropping from 2,005 units in April 2021 to 1,935 units in May 2021.

The farm sector also witnessed a dip in sales, dropping from 27,523 units in April 2021 to 24,184 units in May 2021.

The overall sales have more than doubled compared to the figures from May 2020, as the country was under a nationwide lockdown during this time last year.

Talking about the results, Veejay Nakra, Chief Executive Officer, Automotive Division, Mahindra and & Mahindra Limited, said, "We are seeing a strong growth momentum for our entire product portfolio. The Thar is clocking robust bookings, despite extended waiting periods. XUV300 has been a tremendous success and continues to see strong demand. Our power brands (Scorpio and Bolero) continue to do well. With the cases coming down and the gradual opening of markets, we foresee a strong demand rebound. We are working closely with our supplier partners to manage supply chain issues and meet the market demand." (MT)
