Tata Motors Launches India’s First Three-Axel Truck -Signa 3118.T

Tata Motors launched the Tata Signa 3118.T, India’s first 3-axle 6x2 (10-wheeler) rigid truck with 31 tonnes Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW), for the M&HCV segment.

With a 3500kg higher certified payload capacity and equivalent fuel, tyre, and maintenance costs as a 28-tonne GVW rigid truck, the Signa 3118.T truck provides owners with a unique combination of revenue and operating cost.

According to Tata Motors, owners can recover this higher initial investment on the truck within a year as it provides a 45 percent increase in operating profits over a 28-tonne truck.

The truck is available in two variants: Signa and Cowl in Lx and Cx version with 24-feet and 32-feet load spans. Cummins BS6 engine powers the truck developing 186hp and 850Nm mated to a G950 6 speed transmission and heavy-duty axels.  The truck can be operated as a 31-tonne GVW with a lift axel down or 18.5-tonne GVW with a lift axel up, offering benefits to customers operating as tankers. The Signa 3118.T is certified by the Petroleum & Explosives Safety Organization (PESO) for a 25KL POL tanker, which is 2KL higher than the highest allowed capacity 10-wheeler, 28-tonne GVW truck.

Commenting on the launch, Rajesh Kaul, Vice President, Sales & Marketing, Commercial Vehicle Business Unit, Tata Motors, said, “The Signa 3118.T is a landmark in Tata Motors’ journey towards customer excellence. The model is evidence of unmatched customer-focused engineering and unique value positioning by Tata Motors. The Lx version also comes with air conditioning and unitised wheel bearings. This model expands the array of choice for customers seeking to enhance their profitability through revenue growth model”.

Tata Motors is offering the truck a standard driveline warranty of 6 years/ 6-lakh kilometres along with a service promise under the Sampoorna Seva 2.0 program. The company will initially release the truck in phases across states and markets. (MT)
