Volvo Buses India Launches First Fully Built Sleeper Coach
Volvo Buses India has launched its first wholly built sleeper coach to re-energise the commercial vehicle segment (buses) that was critically affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. The company has received its first order for eight sleeper buses from the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation. These buses will be manufactured at Volvo Buses India’s state-of-the-art facility in Hosakote, Bengaluru.
Developed on the 15m long B11R chassis, the sleeper will house 39 berths with 12.6 m3 of personal luggage space. The interior utilises fire-retardant grade fabrics, plywood, cushions and ABS surfaces to enhance the premium feel and safety. Other notable features on the inside include spacious berths with headrests, mobile chargers, personal reading lamps, LED lighting and curtain between adjacent berths.
The body of the bus is constructed using high-strength carbon steel that has been coated with anti-corrosive paint for maximum durability. The B11R also features a 12-speed I-Shift gearbox, air suspension and electronic braking system for enhanced safety and comfort of the passengers. Volvo has also confirmed that the sleeper bus body platform can also be applied to the Volvo B8R range that includes 12m and 13.5m chassis.
