With New Capabilities, ATG Andhra Pradesh Plant To Cater To APAC Region More Effectively

By Sharad Matade
Alliance Tire Group (ATG) will build its third off-highway tyre plant in India. The new plant, located in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, in India will expand Yokohama Group’s global off-highway tyre production network to eight plants in four countries, including three in India, one in Israel, one in Vietnam, and three in Japan. ATG specialises in the design, development, manufacturing and marketing of agriculture, forestry, construction, industrial, earthmoving, mining and port tyres under Alliance, Galaxy and Primex brands. The company will invest $165 million to build the new plant, which will have a daily production capacity of 55 tonnes ((rubber weight), which will increase Yokoama’s off-highway tyre daily production capacity to 480 tonnes (rubber weight). Construction work will start in the third quarter of 2020, and the new plant is scheduled to start production in the first quarter of 2023. Nitin Mantri, Director, ATG sees an aggressive expansion in the APAC region. “We will also be building ‘new capabilities’, (Giant OTR), in the new plants which will be helpful for growth in EU and USA as well,” says Mantri. The upcoming plant will manufacture all three of ATG’s core off-highway tyre brands—the ALLIANCE, GALAXY and PRIMEX brands— used in agricultural, construction, industrial and forestry machinery. According to Mantri, Yokohama’s strategy is to create a healthy balance between the consumer and commercial tyre segments which will bring more investments in capacity building for the OHT tyres. On production capabilities, the new ATG plant is designed to operate at optimal MHPT (Man-Hours per Tonne) for maximum efficiency. Best TPM and TQM will be the part of every stage from productions to dispatch at the plant. Edited excerpts:
